The Kitchen Reveal!!

Can I just say....I L.O.V.E. my kitchen!! After a lot of work, it is finally done (well, at least for a while! : ) )
So here it was back when we moved in:
And they are my usual bad before pics! :)
Now I did tweak it along the way by painting and changing out some furniture, but I was dying for some white cabinets. So, I broke out the primer and went for it.

And I'm so glad I did!!
Source list:
Paint- Valspar cream oops paint $5, Danish oil for distressing $11
Primer- Zinser Oil based $14
Cabinet hardware- Resale shop $10.50 (21 @ $.50 each, already had the 3 pulls)
Valances- P. Kauffman fabric (Old Time Pottery) for $20, other supplies $11 (used this tutorial to make them)
Accessories- Yellow step stool (Hobby Lobby) $12, small yellow pitcher (Goodwill) $1, 3 glass jars (Target) $6 each, everything else, I already owned!
That's $102.50!! Woo hoo!!
So this post won't be horribly long, I will share in the next few days about how I painted and distressed the cabinets, tips for changing out cabinet hardware and my favorite part of the whole makeover!

PS- If you are visiting from YHL- my blog has moved to vanessadolberry.com/blog!  Please check it out!

The kitchen paint color is Walmart Colorplace Mushroom Taupe. Some Walmarts are not selling paint anymore, so if you need the "recipe" let me know!

Fantastic!! I love the fabric on your valences - do you happen to remember the style name?

Vanessa said...

I don't know the name of the fabric. I tried to do a little research online but coudn't find it! So sorry! I do know that it is a P. Kaufman fabric, but that is all. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

No worries - thanks for trying :) Still loving your transformed kitchen!

Looks fabulous!! Could you tell me what wall color you have?

I am very slowly redoing my kitchen and painting the cabinets is coming up soon. Did you have to sand them or did the primer stick well enough without? The sanding is the part that keeps making me put it off.

Looks great!! Glad you finally had the "guts" to do it! ;) Now, what did you do with those Longaberger baskets on top of your fridge? I have tons of them but hate the color so they are all in a closet, except the two I painted white. =O Yes, and I plan to paint more. :)

Your kitchen looks fabulous. I am tackling my cabinets in the next month so I really enjoy checking out the success other people have had.

Question for you..I see you have a closet or pantry door on the one side of your kitchen..is that painted the same white as the cabinets..or is it the same white as your trim? I have the same situation going on and I am just not sure which route to take with it.

Hopping over from YHL. I love your kitchen transformation!! I have the same cabinets and I might just get the courage up to paint ours now! Very inspiring. We had an ugly apron between the cabinets as well but it was worse than yours, it was scalloped!!!! We just took that down last year and it's made all the difference. It just looked so dated.

Wow that's beautiful! I found your blog from YHL! I have never seen the distressed look like that, gives me more ideas for my future home : ) Thanks for sharing! Just gorgeous!

I just found your blog from YHL. I love your new white cabinets!! Do you have a post on how you painted the cabinets? My cabinets are super cheap-feeling wood, almost like plastic, that seem like they would be impossible to paint. I would love to know how you did yours!

Vanessa said...

Vanessa, I left my pantry door painted white- the same as my baseboards and crown in the room. I was a little worried about that at first- cream and white together, but it really looks great! Good luck on your kitchen! (Great name, by the way!)

Lisa Marie, I have a post sharing the details here on my new blog: http://vanessadolberry.com/blog/the-kitchen-details/ If you have a question that is not answered, let me know!

Just found this thru YHL! Glad I did. Your kitchen turned out great! We were just going to trade out the countertops and do a bit of upgrading and after seeing the price tag on the cabinets I wanted, NOT GONNA HAPPEN! :D So, I'll be painting my cabinets white myself. The sanding has me nervous, but your turned out amazing. Great job! Off to read the details of the remodel! Happy Mother's Day!

Headed over from YHL - you're kitchen looks fab! And, I used that same shower curtain from Target to recover my kitchen chairs :)
